What’s Cookin’

Happy Holidays blogger friends!! It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! All of my shopping is finally done--food & presents.

A little holiday flashback to start:

Phoenix's first Christmas 2007 (3 months old)

Today, Phoenix & I conquered Whole Foods to stock up on some goodies before the world shuts down. I have a mild fear of starvation & when I know everything will be closed for a holiday or if I’m going to the park or even just visiting a friends house--I like to stock-pile food. {I’ve never starved a day in my life}

This is what it looks like before I head to the grocery store:

Staples in my house include fresh veggies & fruits for juicing, pasta & nut butters. Very random. Other than that, I get out my cookbooks & look for ideas. Today I reached for a few favorites: Raw Energy by Stephanie Tourles, Everyday Raw Express by Matthew Kenney & Skinny Bitch-Ultimate Everyday Cookbook by Kim Barnouin. After I browse the cookbooks, I head to my ‘starred blogs’ on Google Reader.

Making grocery lists is one of my favorite activities! I make two each time; one with the recipes including book they are from & page number and another with the ingredients I need to buy in grocery store segments {produce, bulk & other}.

This morning {bright & early}, Phoenix kept shouting “Mom, are you done yet?”; my reply about 50 gazillion times was “Almost, keep watching Scooby Doo.”

This week, with Christmas being two days away, I needed some vegan holiday fare along with some survival food. Here’s what I chose to cook up:

Tonight the little peanut & I will be cooking up a storm and I can’t wait! He’s such a great little helper. Once he hits the sack, I’ve got a ton of present wrapping to do as well as straightening up & cleaning before the fam arrives tomorrow evening.

What are you cooking for the holidays? Anything new & exciting? Anything vegan?
